What's new at the Nursery...
Back To The Fuschia-Old Friends Return!
Long time employee John Magnant will be back in 2006! John left us three years ago to pursue interests outside the nursery business. Both everyone at the nursery and many of customers were sad to see him go because he is so knowledgeable and helpful. (I couldn't bring myself to remove his bio from our "Meet Our Staff" page since he left.) We're so pleased that John has decided to re-join the team in 2006. He will primarily be working at the garden center, but he can do anything.
Landscape Designer Gigi (Stowe) Desautels is also returning this year. Gigi was our Principal Landscape Designer in the late 1980's and early 90's. She left us to go out on her own, operating her own successful landscaping business and a farmstand in Boylston. She returns this year as a part-time "consultant", offering her very talented design services to as many customers as her schedule allows her to fit in with her other projects.
Landscape Designer Julie Cormier is also back! Julie first worked for another nursery in greenhouse operations and then for nine years with us. She's back after a few years off. She is a Mass. Certified Horticulturist and is a graduate of the New England School of Floral Design.
Shrewsbury Nurseries featured twice on TV in December, 2005!
First New England Cable News Newswatch 3 came and interviewed us about Christmas trees. Then CBS4's Worcester Chief Correspondent Ron Sanders set up in our greenhouse and did "live shots" for the 4 and 6 PM editions of CBS4 News.
Shrewsbury Nurseries Proprietor and Founder Reuben Lebeaux featured in October, 2005 newspaper article.

2003 Official Massachusetts Christmas Tree has its roots at Shrewsbury Nurseries!
Tree was purchased here in 1963!
We were thrilled to see a photo of the Official State Christmas Tree on the front page of the newspaper and learn that it had been bought from us 40 years ago.
According to the December 10, 2003 Worcester Telegram, the 48 foot tall Colorado Blue Spruce that was set up on the front lawn of the Statehouse overlooking Boston Common was purchased from Shrewsbury Nurseries by Nellie and Earl Ross of N. Grafton in 1963 when it was two feet tall and cost $8. Mr. and Mrs. Ross sold their home in 1985 to Angela and Donald Davidson. Mr. and Mrs. Davidson donated the tree to the state with the assistance of Rep. George Peterson who had been asked by Governor Romney to locate a suitable tree.
The tree had a 22 inch trunk with branches that spread 25 feet in diameter. The tree was installed by a crew of 20 using a crane at 4 AM on December 1.
The tree, decorated with over 1,000 lights, was lit by Gov. Romney on December 11, 2003.
